ED WENCK
ED WENCK was born in western Pennsylvania and raised in Baltimore. He attended Syracuse University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After 5 years on the stand-up comedy circuit opening for the likes of Drew Carey and Dennis Miller, Ed became a regular on a Syracuse rock station in 1992. From Syracuse, he journeyed to stations in Pittsburgh and San Jose before
landing in Indianapolis in 1996. At that point, the Wenck family determined that Indiana was the place to stay. Ed now hosts Indy’s Afternoon News on 93 WIBC. He’s won three Spectrum awards for his broadcast work, two as ‘Best Radio Personality’ in Indiana. He’s done extensive work with Habitat for Humanity – his proudest moment came in acquiring the Colts as a title sponsor for a build near Lucas Oil Stadium. Ed’s been the go-to guy for emcee work for charity functions and auctions in central Indiana for over a decade, handling hosting duties for everyone from the American Cancer Society’s Survivors Fashion Show to the Guys and Dolls CF Auction Gala.
Ed has been married to Amy, a Montessori preschool teacher, for 24 years. Together they have one teenage son, Oliver, who’s recently graduated from North Central with honors. Oliver is a hockey player who’s been a part of teams that won the International Silver Sticks Competition in Forest, Ontario (Arctic Blast, based in Westfield), the Indiana State 3A High School Championship (North Central) and the NAPHL National League Championship for 18 & under squads (DC Capitals). The Wenck family includes two incredibly dumb mongrel mutts (Chessie and Dingo).
Ed Wenck’s interests include guitar playing and mountain biking. He’s written extensively for The Syracuse New Times, Indy Men’s Magazine and NUVO Newsweekly in Indy and he’s authored two books, The Hockey Dad Chronicles (Emmis Books) and Don’t Try This at Home (with Lou Harry, Cider Mill Press). A third book will hit shelves this summer (Know Your Zombies, also with Lou Harry, Cardinal Press).
