Charity Auction History

Why January?  The weather is not so good many of you say.  That is certainly true; however, that is when EFRC really needs to raise more funds to care for those cats.  The number of visitors to the Center declines sharply in bad weather and gate receipts make up a large percentage of EFRC funds.

So, a group of Indianapolis area volunteers and supporters decided in late 2007 that we would try our hand at a big fundraiser to help provide support for those who do such hard work at the Center.  Thus, the first Saving the Big Cats Charity Auction was born right there in Lori Antony's living room.  The newly minted committee scurried about obtaining auction items and making plans.

January 19, 2008 proved to be a cold wintry day as forecast, but no snowstorms, no ice, and before you knew it, more than 300 people filled the Irsay Pavilion for food, fun and most important of all, fundraising.  EFRC saw an additional $25,000 in its bank account in 2008 because of the Auction; in 2009 the amount increased to $30,000.  This year's profit was $38,000.  Let's hope for more yet in 2011.
